MicroMaster In GIMP/ INKSCAPE Graphic Editing & Graphic Design Certificate Course

*A professional certificate* will be awarded by Hong Kong Nang Yan College of Higher Education upon completion of the course.
Students will not only learn how to create raster and vector graphics using the open source applications GIMP and Inkscape, but also comprehend how to use images to communicate information.
Starting from the basics of vector and raster graphics, the course will gradually deliver related graphic design knowledge in greater depth. Initially, students will learn the introductory concepts of graphic design and the basic techniques of using GIMP and Inkscape. Afterwards, the course will move on to advanced image editing techniques such as color science, text and typography, graphic composition and logo design, as well as methods of converting images to NFT.
Overall, the course emphasizes both theory and practice, allowing students to grasp the unique design styles and characteristics of different eras while mastering the production methods of various types of illustrations, advertisements, web pages and book covers. Ultimately, students will be able to create their own portfolios upon course completion.
We aim to create a harmonious classroom atmosphere with close student-teacher interaction. Our instructors will walk students through several creative media production tasks, and answer students' questions on the spot. Each task is accompanied by an assignment that students are required to complete on their own, and our instructors will use these assignments to assess how well students have mastered the subject material after class. By the end of the course, each student/group should be able to work independently on their creative media projects using Inkscape and GIMP.
Uses free, open source software-- Inkscape and GIMP, which have functions comparable to those of paid software such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
Teaches vector graphics processing, digital image application and post-processing techniques starting from simple concepts to more advanced knowledge.
Knowledge of image processing and vector graphic design learnt can be applied to a wide range of industries
Students are encouraged to develop their unique design style and create personalized, well-presented portfolios
Introduces the latest Metaverse and NFT market trends and NFT production methods
Mr. Chris Kwok
Mr. Kwok has more than 20 years of experience in the design and production field. From graphic design to create interactive content for multiple brands and media, such as Cartoon Network Asia Pacific and FANCL. Mr. Kwok has participated in the production in over 20 international movies like “The leakers” , “She Remembers, He Forgets”. Mr. Kwok also participated in the production in games and interactive experience.
Mr Kwok has a wealth experience applying software such as Adobe Series, Final Cut Pro, Clip studio paint, Unity in design and multimedia project.
Mr. Andy Yeung
Engaged in art design related industries for many years, served as art director or director of art department of many newspapers and advertising companies, and has extensive and in-depth understanding and production experience in art-related work such as printing graphic design, illustration production and online platforms. In the early years, he wrote column articles for Computer Square Magazine, mainly introducing art software, hardware and software usage. Later, he wrote art software teaching books for Taiwan Publishing House. In terms of teaching experience, he has served in many As the head of the company's art department, he produced and taught training courses related to art printing or software for middle school students and internal employees. Later, he also served as a tutor or teaching assistant for short-term training courses in many primary and secondary schools.
